New Year’s Linkbiting
Linkbiting, a barbaric word that describes the art of retrieving inbound links only because an article is cited for the quality of its content.
Rare, but highly rewarding, this type of backlinking is highly valued by search engines.
The paper I am offering today is an example of this, it is to the glory of my fellow SEOs, those I love and/or admire because they are good and they share with frankness and generosity their rich experience and observation about SEO.
So in this article I send links to fellow SEOs,
- without any exchange agreements,
- just because their words are of quality,
- that their information deserves to be disseminated,
and this, without fear of losing a visitor/potential customer.
Because the spirit of the web is to share information and not just to promote yourself…

1) Getting out of a penalty
This article was so good that it dissuaded me from writing my own on the same subject.
Was indeed because it disappeared from the map following the closure of the Orinoco agency.
I had promised it on a Linked-in thread…
One of my clients had suffered a negative SEO attack, I was not done with the process of disavowing this bunch of links that Vincent Drouin was publishing at Orinoco a paper that gave – it’s rare – the whole process through which he had gone through on a similar file.
There is so much in common in the method as well as in his comments that I did not write this experiment, I would have been accused of plagiarism.
This is a warm recommendation that I make to you, if by chance you are the victim (deserved or not) of a penalty for villainous linking .

2) Testing Cache Plugins
Here, it’s a test by Daniel Roch, my favorite SEO techno (with his friend Julio Potier and my personal Jipé ).
As usual with Daniel Roch, it’s a cheating and well-argued experience.
Daniel does a relentless test of the 3 most reliable caching WordPress plugins. After reading his review, I decided to replace my in-house solution coded by Jipé (one of the only programmers in Quebec who cares about SEO in every line of Php he implements) for this super great extension.
Just as efficient as our setup, but faster to install and configure, I acquired a Pro license of “ WP Rocket “.

3) Fall for HTTPS?
Everyone knows webrankinfo, the essential French web referencing forum and flagship site of its big boss Olivier Duffez.
If the forum itself is not a model of reliability, Mr. Duffez’s papers, when they do not concern the promotion for his collective trainings at $3850/p on weekends, are always of great interest.
This is the case in this article which tries to warn the unwary in a hurry to react to Google’s announcement in July that the HTTPS security protocol would now be a criterion taken into account by the search algorithm.

On October 24th, Rand Fishkin is on the weekly SEO Moz board to answer the question: “is it possible to have good SEO with just good content?”
The article has been freely translated into French by Alexandra Martin (Miss SEO girl) otherwise I would have been tempted to do it, as I have always been in tune with this axis of development and SEO strategy.

5) How long does it take for Google to spot and penalize a rogue site?
To manage the security, updates and the fight against spam of a certain number of sites, I am well aware of the wild linking attacks of sellers of copies of luxury brands such as Longchamp, Vuiton, Nike or Louboutin.

It’s because every week I welcome too many of these clients whose websites have been victims of techno migrations with no other care than the change of graphics… that this article is a resource to be kept preciously. More specialized, it is the agencies that should immerse themselves in it.
