It is a language that addresses search engines that uses them to better understand the content and sometimes uses them to enrich the <em>snippets<\/em> (the 4 lines of presentation in the results page). There are hundreds of them and they remain under-exploited.  <\/p>\n<p>The microformat reference is <a href=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/\">schema.org<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6125\" src=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/microformats-microdata.jpg\" alt=\"Micro Data Micro Formats\" width=\"439\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/microformats-microdata.jpg 439w, https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/microformats-microdata-300x145.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 439px) 100vw, 439px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In general, website owners tend to forget that Google does not guarantee the display of <em>Rich Snippets<\/em> in search results (SERPs), even if your markup is correct and validated by the engine&#8217;s official testing tool.<\/p>\n<p>This means that <strong>this micro data<\/strong> will not be sure to highlight your results in the SERP.<\/p>\n<p>Be aware, if you use the structured data testing tool, that the tool only checks the technical aspects such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the validity of the markings,<\/li>\n<li>Syntax<\/li>\n<li>the fields, present and correctly filled in. And in particular the veracity of the contents of these fields <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It does not really check for <em>policy issues or guidelines<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to see what your <em>Rich Snippets<\/em> look like, but they&#8217;re not (yet) visible in search results, you can perform a site search using the site operator in Chrome: Site:votre-site-web.com<\/p>\n<p>And if, for example, they appear in this test search when you don&#8217;t see them in a natural result, it may be that there is a problem that you will solve by working on <strong>the quality of the page<\/strong> and <strong>overall on the quality of your site<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is the best way to understand what works and the only way to acquire best practices for <strong>structured data<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The structured data you provide in your pages should <strong>never be wrong or misleading<\/strong>, it should always be an accurate representation of your actual content, it should really <strong>match the content of your offers <\/strong>and the content (texts, images, videos, audio files) you put online.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>This is a fundamental principle to be respected.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>  To illustrate this, I have written a &#8221;  <a href=\"http:\/\/restauranttandem.com\/recette\/recette-site-seo\/\">SEO recipe<\/a>  (with great care) and published it on the website of Tandem, a restaurant whose &#8220;recipe&#8221; micro-data comes out perfectly.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6126\" style=\"width: 608px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6126\" class=\"wp-image-6126 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/micro-format-recette.jpg\" alt=\"Rich Snippet Recipe\" width=\"598\" height=\"119\" srcset=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/micro-format-recette.jpg 598w, https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/micro-format-recette-300x60.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-6126\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Actual recipe snipet, the photo appears but not the ingredients this time<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>While recipes benefit from a rich <em>snippet<\/em> that compete with &#8220;Ricardo&#8221; in the SERP, my imaginary SEO recipe doesn&#8217;t display either the image associated with the &#8220;dish&#8221; or any of the recipe&#8217;s ingredients. (panda, penguin, Panama sauce and many other good ingredients). <\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6127\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6127\" class=\"wp-image-6127 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/recette-seo-fake.jpg\" alt=\"Rich Snippet Micro Data Fake\" width=\"589\" height=\"96\" srcset=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/recette-seo-fake.jpg 589w, https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/recette-seo-fake-300x49.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-6127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">No rich data display for this humorous test article<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8230; And this is because the page is not consistent with the implemented micro data and this article is misleading&#8230; (delinquent that I am!)<\/p>\n<h2>Check your markup with the Google tool<\/h2>\n<p>As mentioned above, you can essentially use the structured data testing tool to check the <em>live<\/em> validity of your markup for each <strong>sitemap<\/strong> URL you provide to the Google console.  <\/p>\n<p>Site owners sometimes forget that &#8221; <em>console<\/em> &#8221; provides essential information about both structured data and rich cards, (but this is <em>relatively<\/em> new).<\/p>\n<p>If you learn something, by reading this article, I invite you to explore Google console (ex Webmaster tool) because it is a much richer tool.<\/p>\n<h2>Structured data in the console<\/h2>\n<p>If you go to your account (<em>webmastertool<\/em>) and have implemented structured data, you will find interesting reports about the problems or errors that <em>googlebot<\/em> has encountered in your rich cards.<\/p>\n<p>An example of this is the latest data added <strong>on menus<\/strong> for micro-formats for restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>When the update was carried out, the CMSs or webmasters had to <em>recode<\/em> the new fields because the previous ones appeared incomplete.<\/p>\n<h2>The marking of &#8220;products&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>We are going to talk here, about the products you sell in your online store or the services you offer.<\/p>\n<h2>Avoid markup on category pages<\/h2>\n<p>For each product on a category page, avoid using product markup because a <strong>category is a generic page<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you are thinking of tagging &#8220;product&#8221; your catalog of &#8220;holiday homes in St Pierre&#8221;, and you offer in the <strong>following directory<\/strong> a list of holiday homes in St Pierre, Google might be confused because you <strong>associate the product markup<\/strong> with a generic term <strong>present at the higher hierarchical level.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you combine this data with <strong>review markup<\/strong>, there is a good chance that Google does not know what these reviews refer to.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6129\" src=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/etoiles-avis.jpg\" alt=\"Notice markings\" width=\"492\" height=\"116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/etoiles-avis.jpg 492w, https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/etoiles-avis-300x71.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 492px) 100vw, 492px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>  Ratings and reviews<\/h2>\n<p>The same goes for aggregated reviews in general, ideally reviews should <strong>only refer to a specific article<\/strong> or <strong>service<\/strong>, and they should be assigned for each article individually. (in an E-commerce, the final product itself) <\/p>\n<p>Again, this should <strong>not be a generic list<\/strong> or category of items, but rather specific reviews for each product or item.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>This is one of the problems that still leaves webmasters stunned.  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And the fact is, for Google, markup should never be confusing or misleading.<\/p>\n<h3>Reviews must be available on the site<\/h3>\n<p>If you use the reviews on your page and have integrated the appropriate markup, ideally, users should <strong>be able to see these reviews<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you only have the markup on the page, and during their visit the user:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>has no way of seeing these reviews,<\/li>\n<li>no way to participate and<\/li>\n<li>that they cannot know the origin of the data,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Google <strong>may not display them<\/strong> because it all has to be clear to the user.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In short:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your reviews should be coded in such a way that the user who visits your page can easily identify the reviews, add them, or check their origin.<\/p>\n<p>It is simple and logical for a user to click on your stars to give a rating that should be added to the other votes and not remain neutral.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;notice&#8221; markup must therefore be <strong>something real<\/strong> and not a function that is displayed but manipulated.<\/p>\n<h3>Source of aggregated reviews.<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_6130\" style=\"width: 348px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/knoledge-graph-avis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6130\" class=\"wp-image-6130\" src=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/knoledge-graph-avis.jpg\" alt=\"Kwnoledge Graph Reviews\" width=\"338\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/knoledge-graph-avis.jpg 470w, https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/knoledge-graph-avis-241x300.jpg 241w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-6130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In yellow, the origin of the reviews, verifiable by a click<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In general, sites that use third-party resource aggregations for their reviews are not a problem, but <strong>at the implementation<\/strong> you have to make sure that <strong>the source is mentioned<\/strong>, by putting a link to this source.<\/p>\n<p>If a user sees this review from a third party, they should be able to click on an anchor or logo to be redirected to the third-party site where the reviews are featured.<\/p>\n<p>If you do it this way, there will be no problem displaying them in search results.<\/p>\n<p>This is what Google does when it displays reviews in the <em>knowledge graph<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Product and service markup<\/h2>\n<p>Another source of confusion concerns the <strong>marking of &#8220;products&#8221;<\/strong> (product or service, both are marked in the same way). Ideally, this should <strong>always<\/strong> <strong> <\/strong><strong>refer to a specific product or service<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>The specific item you offer on the product page should not be tagged with a very generic word, such as its brand (example: Toyota), or a word like &#8220;car&#8221; but rather name the item with its specific reference, &#8220;Toyota Yaris 3 III 1.5 Hybrid Dynamic 5p&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This error is common and <strong>is similar to spam<\/strong>, to be avoided completely.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/referencement-pme.ca\/en\/micro-data-in-simple-webmaster-questions\/\">Read more about micro-formats<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A microformat (or microformat) allows you to format data in web pages, they streamline and standardize the content.
